What a great idea!! I loved this. And like many others I had a hard time sticking to just eight. I’ll be making a “Part Two” list pretty soon.

I like that it got me thinking about songs that have had a spiritual impact on me over the years and why they did.

This my first round of 8-things & I really enjoyed it. I’ve been mulling a list of songs for the last day… One thing I noticed about my list is that most of the songs became important to me years ago. Listing them & listening to them one by one sort of restored me to that place in my life and now I’m digging around & dwelling in that. And it’s good!

I listed mine … but couldn’t choose 8 songs instead, I listed 8 artists … plus some. Sorry, just too difficult to keep to 8 and I have never been good at staying in the lines.

This took me a while because I really don’t know a lot of music. We used to know so many musicians and see shows all the time, but I guess kids/work/life/relocating to a non-music-scene city have gotten in the way of that lately.

One thing I noticed is that the songs I am drawn to for a spiritual connection are usually about the human condition, and usually kind of depressing. Even the song we chose for our wedding (#1 on the list) is pretty sad for a wedding song.

But realism has always been more beautiful to me than romanticism.

It’s surprising how many of mine come from the late 70s. But I guess I am a product of that era, after all.

Ah! We’ve got a few in common! I’ll try to think of some different ones for my list.

We’re going to see Mat Kearney on Sunday night. Our friend Tyler Burkum (a wonderful songwriter and musician in his own right) plays guitar for Mat and tours with him. That reminds me, I need to buy Mat’s new album so I can learn the songs before the show!
