What I Wish…
It’s Wishcasting Day over at Starshyne Prodcutions, home of the lovely and insightful Jamie Ridler. This week she’s asking us to wish for help. (And throughout the room of women there ran a great sigh, heavy with both longing and resistance.)
It is not easy to ask for help. But recently I gave it a shot and was bowled over by the generous and sustaining response. And I need help. I really do. So even though these wishes seem harder to fulfill, I’m still going to stand on hope and give it shot.
I wish for help with dinner. I really hate making dinner. It is the bane of my exisistence. I have chronic pain, and by the time dinner rolls around I’m down for the count. It hurts to stand in the kitchen, it hurts to chop, the fumes from the onions hurt, the steam from the pan hurts. It bites, big time. Sometimes I get my act together enough to cook early in the day — but the meal is never really satisfying, reheated and less-than-fresh, so I don’t do it often. I don’t know from whence help may come, but I’m asking the Universe for help with dinner.
I wish for help with my writing. I need an editor. I need someone to help me meet my goals. I need someone who will exercise with me and not just agree to go eat some pie together, you know what I mean? Oh, and I probably need some mysterious kick in the pants type thing that will finally tweak my psyche so that I am internally motivated to put words on a page. I wish for a breakthrough in this arena.
I wish for help with my blog. Oh my husband, he is so nice! But there are only so many hours in a day, and I have plans. Lovely plans. But I need help figuring out how to make Mr. Linky work on WordPress. I need help finding and installing a podcast program that will work on the same. I need to figure out how to sell ads and make ads, or instruct others to do so. I need someone to IM me and say, “What’s your password? I’ll do it.” Or at the very least say, “I’ll walk you thru it step by step.” Oh, how I wish for the practicals in a language I can understand!
How is that for a long list of wishes and asks? I’m glad the Universe has big ears and a wide open heart.
What do you wish for help with?

hi, rachelle,
i’ve been reading your blog for a little bit, maybe a couple of months, and you’ve given me inspiration and hope and helped me to look at things differently. i noticed on the page for 8 things and soultribes, you wrote something about needing buttons. i
i made a button for 8 things, using the green graphic and linking back to the 8 things page.
the code for it is:
i put the graphic on my flickr account, and i’m okay with leaving it there, and also making a button for you for soultribes.
please let me know if this is ok, or if you want me to make a different button, or whatever. oh! if you click on my blog, the button is at the top of the page. =)
peace,
jenn
ps. i know how to make ad buttons, i can help you with that, too, if you’d like.
As Rachelle wishes for herself, so I wish for her also.
http://www.bannerfans.com is a great place to create banners, badges and more and it’s free! I used it to create the badge “Poetry Play Thursday” that is in my sidebar at http://touchinspiration.blogspot.com along with a few other banners. It’s easy and fun. (Sheesh, you’d think this was a commercial!) :)
Jenn, it’s so nice of you to offer Rachelle specific help. I’m also here to help in any way I can.

I’m so with you on the dinner thing. I have a housefull of preschoolers every day – am soooooo burned out by 5:30!!! Uhgggg – let’s have mac and cheese again. Hmmmmmmm!! Blessings, Sarah

Do you know that your wish has already helped me? I’m in the process of transforming my online presence and had no idea that the shift to WordPress will impact my ability to use Mr. Linky. Now I’m off looking for solutions too. Maybe we can help each other :)

I cannot help you with wordpad, but I am sure there are many places online with tips. Have you tried googling? mr. linky + wordpad or podcast + wordpad?
I do have one bit of unsolicited advice. Don’t give out your password. :)
Jenn – Code won’t show up in comments.
Rachelle:
I am waaay to far away to help with dinner and my eight year old is better at HTML than I am, but I am a fellow writer struggling to come to the page every day, looking for a community of writers (here in San Antonio) and out here in the wider world.
I’m sending you good energy and prayers and if there’s a way I can help you from here, let me know.

May you find the house elves and html help you need!
Much Joy~*

I am about to start an editing course – I’d love to help you, but I don’t KNOW anything yet!
I’d love to cook your dinners, too, but I don’t think it would survive in the mail. One thing my friend does is make a big salad for the week, and then just cook the protein every night. Maybe that would help?

I don’t do the wishcasting, maybe because I have a hard time focusing, but I find it interesting that so many things you just wished for, and are on my list, just showed up today.
My guy, who’s been away for work for months, cleaned up the living room while I was watching the kids in the garden. Not used to that. And he started reading my second draft of my novel as my first reader.
Then we came inside and found dinner waiting, not because of hubby but because I’d put a pot roast in a slow cooker this morning and it was just DONE, with no prep. cool. And there was no prep because I have succumbed to the lure of frozen, chopped veggies. Sliced mushrooms, and GET THIS: frozen diced onions! No more crying or cutting off fingers while trying to watch kids. Drop from bag into pan. WOW. (got an easy recipe from allrecipes.com, because I’m a pot roast virgin and a slowcooker neophyte.)
I got nothing for ya on the website.
I didn’t realize til I posted that maybe my today could help your tomorrow. Slow cooker. Prepped chopped veggies.
as rachelle wishes for herself, I wish for her as well

I thoroughly endorse the slow cooker idea. Maybe with a pre-prepared green salad and warm (bought!) bread.
I have in my “to read” favourites list this article on pod-casting that appears to be a step-by-step. Haven’t read it so not sure if it’ll help, but here: http://radio.about.com/od/podcastin1/a/aa030805a.htm
How wonderful that you’re asking for help–openly, in specific ways. I imagine that felt good all on its own, just to put your needs into words. Once again, you’ve inspired me (the rest of us) to learn something, to try something, and to step out on a new limb.
Thank you for everyone who responded to my wishes! I’m happy to announce that I now have *8Things and Soultribe buttons available for those of you who would like to play along. (And Mr. Linky blogrolls to help ya’ll get connected and drive traffic).
There are some writing help possiblities as well…still chewing on that one.
And, last night a fello expat turned me on to delivery service that brings you a reciepe and all the ingredients you need for dinner twice a week. I still have to cook, but at least the guess work is taken out of it. Apparently the two meals stretch to make 4 because of leftovers, so that would be most of the meals for the week.
It’s always amazing to me what happens when we ask for help!
Much warmth to you,
Rachelle
i’m a new reader here; i’ve felt very warmed and inspired by many of your posts and so in return i want to say, please feel free to shoot me an email re: any web coding questions. i’m new-ish to wordpress myself, but, a computer science degree has to be good for something! i would be happy to try to explain things to you in non-jargon, or if i don’t know the answer myself, learn alongside you.
i’m happy to help with editing if you’d like Rachelle.
Tell me all about it! Leave a Comment...
