*8 Things: Songs I Need to Breathe

It’s been a long week folks: migraine, insomnia, a lack of writing time, homesickness. On weeks like this, hell, on just one day like this, I need a fistful of these tunes to keep me where the light is. You can watch them all in a row here (except for Hothouse Flowers, which I couldn’t find.) I hope one or two of them give you sustenance and joy this weekend.
Do you have a song that gets you through the tough spots? Got a list of *8 over at your place? Link ‘em in the comments, pretty please!
1) Gravity, John Mayer
2) These Streets, Paolo Nutini
(brought to me by Dreamer Girl)
3) Yahweh, U2
4) Strange and Beautiful, Aqualung
5) It Will Be Easier in the Morning, Hothouse Flowers
6) Light and Day, Polyphonic Spree
7) I Was Meant for the Stage, The Decemberists
8) We Crawl, Polyphonic Spree

Hope you’re feeling better :) thanks for the link love!! xox
Try Maia Sharp’s Red Dress & Firefly and Tina Dico’s Break of Day.
ooh, the Hothouse Flowers – that takes me back to Glastonbury festival circa 1991 :-)
another one to add – the magnificent Deb Talan – Something Burning always cheers me up
Rio – Duran Duran
Lucky Star – Madonna
Caroline – Tete
Nothing – Edie Brickell
The Dress Looks nice on you – Sufjan Stevens
I love your choice; I’m listening to it now, and it’s making a lonely latenight a lot more colorful. I’d suggest “To Be Surprised” by Sondre Lerche too!
I also wanted to let you know how amazingly empathetic this post seemed to me. The insomnia, the homesickness, the sick-sickness, the creative standstill, it’s been my life lately. I’ve been one of those moms I always pitied, hiding indoors in boxer shorts and yesterday’s makeup to avoid a world I don’t feel like facing. I just wanted to thank you for being honest and helping at least one of us out here feel less alone.
(And p.s. – I linked to your “offensive rat” post from my blog; I think the world would be a significantly better place if people took to heart what you wrote in it.)
sometimes there’s nothing like music to match the mood
sorry your week has been so awful
perhaps this aussie singer will have something for you
Pete Murray – Seen Better Days
Hope this finds you emerging healthy, happy, and a bit more whole…
I love that Hothouse Flowers song!
It’s gotten me through many crises.
Believe it or not, I have it on cassette tape – made in 1990 during a tumultuous and short-lived relationship with a guy from Ireland :-0
That song rocks!
When all else fails around here….and to blow the stink off…we put on Earth, Wind & Fire’s Greatest Hits. It’s *impossible* not to get your groove goin’ with them backing you up :-)
“Yahweh” is one of my all-timers. Really, really, really loud, home alone. I wanted to share this post from last winter – I was pretty down, and that song took me in.

P.S. How’s the writing streak?
