What Patience Yields

Sometimes, you find something so beautiful you just have to pass it on for the shear gothic loveliness of it all.

Slide over this way to see Peter Callesen’s beautiful papercut artworks. I’m especially fond of “Cradle.” Which one do you adore?

(Thanks to Barbara Lucke of the Fremont Arts Council for introducing us to Peter’s work.)

Thank you for this link, Rachelle. But your question — which one do you adore? — was the hardest one anyone asked me yesterday. I still can’t pick just one.

From the A4 series, I do love “All in All”. And I also adore all the ones with a botanical subject in the framed A4 series.

Now, here’s another artist, Pete Goldlust, who also shows what patience yields:

Which one do you crave? I’m torn between “Dina” and “Evita”.

Elaine,

My favorite of Callesen’s papercuts is “Cradle.” A lot of artists work with the birth/death theme — but many err on the dark gory side of death. The intriciate whiteness of this piece, with the delicate flowers contrasting with the heavier cradle/coffin spoke to me of death, and how death is a “passing on” to a new life. (I like the term “passing on” and the truth I think it conveys. I try to use with with my children when the topic of death comes about.)

Thanks for the link to the other creative Pete. I love the carved crayons! I especially like the cleverness of “Portrait of Myself as a Foot Massager.” Cleverness goes a long way with me.

Hi, Rachelle. Thank you for your interpretation of Cradle. I understand and appreciate it much better. And I adore even more, how you define “passing on.” This makes it more than a gentle euphemism for dying.

Clever — why am I not surprised it works for you. Well, it’s all over your site. Yes, a title is an important part of the artwork. From Papercut Peter’s collection, I really liked the cleverness of one of his simplest creations, “Big wave moving towards a small castle made of sand, 2005″

I’m still not finished admiring either of these artists’ works. Thanks for letting me share my appreciation. I’ll be quiet now.

Have a wonderful Wednesday.

“Traces in Snow” made me giddy. Which probably says a whole lot about me. Probably none of it good. ;)
