The Bunny Zine: in which the girls tell a story all about bunnies
The girls spent the bulk of their Saturday at the PDX Zineposium
dodging the numerous line drawings of phalluses and severed heads in order to find all that is kid friendly in Zine culture. They gathered plenty of swags–tiny buttons, handmade stickers, and this Volume 4, Issue 5 of a zine consisting entirely of identical bunnies. On the 20 minuted drive back across the Oregon/Washington border (the girls rolled down the windows to kiss the Washington air) Cate wrote a story to accompany the pictoral zine. It basically went “Bunnies, bunnies bunnies. More bunnies and …. Bunnies!!” After a while it did acquire a semblance of a plot. Here’s how she retold the story later in the hotel room, illustrated with the entire zine.
Bunnyville Bunnies All the Time
Chapter 1: Bunnyville
Once upon a time there were lots of bunnies. They decided to make a ville. They called it Bunnyville. Everything was made in the shape of bunnies. On the dollar bills and coins there are bunnies. Everyone was happy. Then one day, a new person came to Bunnyville. Her name was Miss Lady Lavender. Of course, she’s a bunny. She took care of the pet store, the bank, and the adoption place. And all they sold at the pet store was bunnies. The adoption place is where you can adopt bunnies. You also get a bed and stuff, but when you buy a bunny [at the pet store], you just get a bunny.
Chapter 2: The Bunnies Who Never Listen
There were four bunnies. They never listened to any other bunnies, and there were a lot of other bunnies. There names were Bassie, Brittany, Abraham, and Katrina. The other bunnies decided to do something about these four, so they played tricks on them. The other bunnies made a hole and put a cloth over it. Two of the bunnies, Bassie and Abraham, fell into the hole. Then the other bunnies made a trap by hanging a rope from a tree with a loop on the ground. Then Katrina put her foot inside the loop. The bunnies pulled on the rope and she was dangling from the tree. Then they made another trap with a net on the ground. Brittany walked over the net, and the bunnies pulled on the rope and Brittany was swinging in the net from the tree.
Chapter 3: The bunnies that got lost in the woods
There were these bunnies who wanted to go camping, so they asked their mamas. The mamas said, ‘Yes.’ They went right into the smack middle of the woods. The bunnies couldn’t find a map, so they were lost. One of the bunnies called Miss Lady Lavender, and told her that they were in the smack middle of the woods and they were lost. Miss Lady Lavender came with a boy bunny named Little Chester. The lost bunnies said, “We’re so glad that you guys are here.” And they got rescued.
The End.
