Rachelle,

What a gracious gift you give Souren in loving him, caring for him, letting your heart be stretched, troubled, expanded, torn because of that love.

Thank you for suffering disquiet on his behalf. So few choose this path that it's a rare blessing indeed, but an extraordinarily powerful one. Its ramifications reverbate through eternity, fighting entropy, changing the world--one relationship at a time.

There is always a choice. I'm so grateful you choose to bless.
Grace and peace to you.

Thank you Rachelle, that was beautiful. As a father of a 16 year-old and an 18-year old I feel so much of what you say: it's so wonderous and painful, all at the same time.

tagging off the "EMBARRASSING THEM TO DEATH" part, I recently saw a family of dad, teenage son, grade school girl (all assumptions), sitting and reading in their station wagon in the parking lot of the grocery store...perhaps waiting for whatever family member was shopping? On the back of the station wagon was a bumper sticker that read: Today's parents don't circumsize.

Now, if you were that teenage boy getting picked up in that station wagon at high school in front of all your friends...

This is such a painful, beautiful, profound reflection. Thank you for it. I feel like your inner wrestlings here have made us all wiser, no matter what inner or outer children we're trying to accompany.
