Free Love Give-Away Begins Feb 1st
It starts tomorrow! Are you so excited? You know what it reminds me of? Once, when I was ten or eleven, my family drove our camper to Southern California to go to Disneyland. We stayed at one of those KOA campgrounds with all the concrete and the nice showers. That night, if we climbed the ladder to the roof of the camper, we could see the fireworks exploding over Cinderella’s castle. We were delirious with anticipation. I feel sort of like that!
I’ve just printed up several sets of the collaged loved cards, and I’m going to be cutting, scoring and folding the night way. I always forget that making and spreading art always involves some project task that I really dislike. Assembling seems to be the big draw back for me lately. Thank goodness I have this on tape so my Hollywood crush can keep me company! (Even my kids refer to him as “Mommy’s little crush.”)
Congratulations to Bobbie, Meg, and Jamie for winning the Free Love Give-Away give away (wow, that’s a mouthful!). Oh, and special thanks to Melissa, who graciously gave her winnings up to the next gal. One act of free love already completed!
While you’re waiting for your order to arrive in the mail, here are some other lovely little ideas that will help spread a little love around….
Ten Free Love Give-Away Ideas
10. Scrape the ice off your neighbor’s windshield before you go to work.
9. Take a roll of scotch tape with you to the grocery store and stick coupons on the relevant boxes. (I stole this from Oprah years ago, but I still think it’s great. It would make my day if there was a dollar-off coupon on the Cracklin’ Oat Bran when I picked it up off the shelf!)
8. While you’re at the grocery store…make eye contact with your cashier, address them by name, and tell them thank you for helping you get through the tasks of your day.
7. Write your kid’s teacher a note – or better yet, remember the unsung school heroes: janitors, music teachers, reading specialists, the yard duty people, bus drivers and the lunch lady!
6. Bring your co-worker a cup of coffee from your local barista, or even just refill his/her mug when you head to the break room.
5. Put one of those crack-and-heat hand warmers in your mailbox for your letter carrier.
4. Brush your poor mangy dog.
3. Put that jar of coins you’ve been collecting in your cashier’s charity box.
2. Hold the elevator.
1. Where you’ve bee lurking, post a love note on someone’s blog. (Heather can use some counter-hate mail.)
Okay, ready? Drop and give me 5…..ideas in the comments below, that is…

have ice cream for dinner
put quarters in the washing machine for the next person
give the guy pumping your gas a cup of coffee or cocoa
have a treat guilt free after the kids are asleep
be the car that stops to let the car that has been waiting forever into the line of traffic
Oh, wow! Thanks Melissa! I didn’t expect to win as I was the 4th:) That’s a nice little surprise! I like this idea. I especially like the idea of scraping off someone’s windshield. Ok, five of my own:
Make cookies or bread and drop them off in the lounge (I live on campus)
We’re hosting a waffle party this Friday to kick things off for our small group as a fun dinner. Whip cream, chocolate chips, fruit, syrup, peanut butter all will be offered as well as vegan options and our guests don’t have to bring a thing.
Take your neighbor’s kids for a walk just to get them out of the house and give the parents a 15 minute surprise break.
Go vegan for a day. The animals saved by not eating animal products for one day will certainly appreciate this:)
Fast for one meal and take the amount that would have purchased dinner and donate it to any charity of your choice.
I’m only a kind of lurker, but here is my love note:
I come and visit your sites when I want to remember what it is I love about the Jesus community. I come when I need a reminder that not only is it okay to be myself, it’s absolutely imperative. I come when I am feeling down about creating art, because when I look at your art – both your words and your pictures, I am reminded what it means to be fully human. I come when I need something to hope about because I’ve let my own dreams slip a bit too far away. I come when I’ve gotten too far away from what it looks like to have spiritual conversations without words. I come because I love it around here.
i put the little pledge to do random acts of love in the church bulletin, and then bought wonderful paper and wrote it out…
right next to another piece of paper that says “I want to show love to…. ”
i wonder if the world can change if we all collectively decided to love every day.
i bet it can.
the possibilities are endless.
i say try to get others to come along for the ride, your group, your fellow bloggers, church, the more lovers we have the better – that’s what i say ;)
ps: i’ll post a photo of the paper when it’s all filled up and any other thought expressions i can think of this month, regarding all the love.
Ooooo…you’re all so inspiring! And _I_ feel loved by all your kind words and clever ideas. Thanks so much for playing in the fields of love with me!
I read this several days ago, as I was about to log off and haven’t had time to do more than read since. Here are some my thoughts…
+Few buffet restaurants expect tips…leave one for the busser anyway!
+Pick up an extra gallon of milk or loaf of bread for your next door neighbor.
+Order extra Girl Scout cookies for the nursing home staff and residents.
+Decorate your little girl’s lampshade with scrapbook stickers…after she’s asleep!
+Make snow luminaries to warm the heart on bitter cold nights.

Oh darling, I love this idea. Spreading a little love throughout the world could only lead to wonderful and amazing things. Some of my ideas are…..
*After bringing your grocery’s to the car with the shopping cart, return it to where it belongs and leave a special note on it for the next person who uses it.
*Write a compliment for your server at a restaurant and leave it for them on the table. It is always so nice to hear you are doing a good job.
*Make some hot chocolate for the mailman.
*Send out “Enjoy your day” cards to random people from the phone book.
*Send out “Thinking of you” cards to friends or family you have not seen in awhile.
*Put a lovely note in your special someones pocket so they find it when you are not around.
*Smile and be kind to someone who is grumpy to you. You have no idea what they are going through, and maybe your kindess and smile is just what they needed.
What a great idea. Here are a few more:
- bring your neighbor’s newspaper in from the curb to their doorstep.
- when your barista or waiter asks how you’re doing, return the favor and ask how they’re doing as well.
- take the leftover floral centerpieces from your wedding/holiday party to a hospital or care home…
Tell me all about it! Leave a Comment...
